My 3 yr old with Downs will be on the Magic - March 2012, -she recently broke her neck so we are celebrating all we've survived this year, she has titanium in her neck from the fusion but has no restrictions, do we need a Dr's note for any metal detectors?

    Hi, Kathy!

We have an expression in the South which applies to your sweet little daughter -- "Bless her heart!" I'm so sorry that you all have endured such a hardship this year, but I'm very thankful you are in a position to celebrate now. You and yours are going to have a wonderful fun-filled and relaxing vacation on the Disney Magic next spring!

As far as the titanium in your baby's neck, there are conflicting reports on whether or not metal detectors will pick it up. It's really going to depend on how much there is and the sophistication of the machine. I'm really not that concerned about security at the cruise port terminal at Port Canaveral accepting your word. However, if you're flying, you may not receive as much compassion and understanding. Therefore, I would get a signed form from your doctor's office just in case. I'm definitely a "just in case" kind of person so I always like to err on the side of caution and preparedness.

I hope you have a wonderful day and a magical vacation. I'm so tickled that your family is going to enjoy such a fantastic experience together. Bon voyage!
