Our 9 yr old has autism as well as many other diagnosises. He is a resistant eater and will only eat certain foods prepared a certain way. For example, mac/cheese must be just like Kraft mac/cheese. Would you know how they prepare the mac/cheese?

    Hi Cherie,

Many families who travel to Walt Disney World with children who have Autism report that it is a very user-friendly destination for their special kids.  I'm one of them.  I recommend obtaining a Guest Assistance Card at Guest Relations at whichever park you visit first.  I'm guessing waiting on long lines is difficult for your son, and this card will enable your family to use an alternate entrance with a shorter line (and often a quieter waiting area) for most attractions.

As for food, I can related to having picky eaters.  My kids are fans of Kraft Mac n' Cheese as well, and will eat the type served at Columbia Harbour House at the Magic Kingdom.  The mac n' cheese varies depending upon where you are eating.  At many of the buffets, it has a creamy cheese sauce for example.  While I can't comment on the macaroni and cheese at every restaurant, I can say that I have had a lot of success with my picky eaters at Disney.  The wait staff is generally able to accommodate many requests to leave sauces on, off or on the side, grill instead of fry and substitute toppings.  I can usually find plain buttered pasta or pizza just about anywhere for example (two staples in my house!)  Another thing that works great for my kids is bringing along a soft cooler bag with a few of their favorite items to supplement what we pick up at the restaurants and in the parks.

I hope your son and entire family have a magical trip!
