Also, my youngest, age 7, has autism. Does Disney offer any resources for children on the spectrum?

    Hi Amanda,

Welcome back to planDisney, and thanks for bringing me another great question! As the mama of an Autistic Mouseketeer myself, I’m happy to share that we’ve found the Walt Disney World Resort to be a magical vacation destination for everyone, and I’d be happy to share about some of the fantastic services provided for Guests with disabilities.

First, I’d encourage you to check out this helpful Guide for Guests with Cognitive Disabilities. As you can see from that, Disney wants all Guests to feel comfortable during their visit. For my family, the Disability Access Service (DAS) has been an incredible blessing. For Guests whose disabilities make waiting in traditional queues difficult, this service will allow you to receive a return time that’s slightly less than the posted wait time so that you can enjoy another attraction, grab a bite to eat, or enjoy some downtime while you wait. You'll be able to use it one attraction at a time throughout your visit. DAS has recently gone through some updates that took this fantastic service and made it even more user-friendly! You’ll now be able to video chat with a Cast Member 2-30 days prior to your visit to talk through your concerns, and if you’re approved, they’ll set everything up for you in advance. You’ll even be able to schedule up to two attractions per day ahead of time! Once you arrive, you’ll now be able to request a DAS return-time from within the My Disney Experience app, too, instead of needing to visit a Cast Member at the attraction.

I also try to prepare ahead of time to help my Mouseketeer feel comfortable by creating a picture schedule with photos of our Disney Resort hotel and anything new we’ll be experiencing on this visit. I also bring earbuds, snacks, a sensory brush, and some sensory toys in case he feels overwhelmed or overstimulated. Thankfully, he loves our Disney vacations and finds so much joy all around The Most Magical Place on Earth.

I hope this helps your little one to feel at ease during your vacation, Amanda! If there’s anything else I can help you with, please don’t hesitate to stop by planDisney again! I hope you and your whole crew have a BLAST and make memories to cherish for years to come on your upcoming Disney adventure!
