Hi there! My 9-year-old wants to participate in an upcoming runDisney kids race, but she will turn turn 10-years-old right before the race. She will be 9 at the time of registration. Can she participate?

    Hi Jennifer,

Thank you for stopping by planDisney with your question about registering for a runDisney event. I am happy to help you and your daughter discover how "Every Mile is Magic."

I am not sure which runDisney Event you are considering, but in general the age restrictions pertain to the age of the person by race day.  Most runDisney events are announced many months in advance and are extremely popular and therefore sell out fast.  I know whenever I am considering a race, I make sure to be online well before the event opens up to help me have the best chance at securing a race registration.  Therefore, if the race requirements are that a participant must be 10 years old, then you do not need to wait until she is 10 to register her.  However, she does need to be 10 years old by race day.

At the time of this writing, runDisney age restrictions for participants are as follows:
    • 5K - must be 5 years old by race day
    • 10K - must be 10 years old by race day
    • Half Marathon - must be 14 years old by race day
    • Marathon - must be 18 years old by race day
    • Disney Castaway Cay Challenge - must be 5 years old by race day
