This will be my 11-year-old nephew's first trip to WDW. He will mostly want to eat counter service, but I want to plan at least one sit-down meal to celebrate his birthday and first visit. Any recommendations?

Hi James, and welcome back to planDisney! We’re so happy you’re here and sent in this fun question. What a lucky nephew you have to have an uncle who wants to make his first visit to the Most Magical Place on Earth so special. A birthday and a first visit definitely call for a dinner to remember!

Dining happens to be one of my favorite topics when it comes to a Walt Disney World Resort vacation! My son has always been my go-to Disney foodie, and since he’s been helping me choose restaurants for our Disney vacations since he was about your nephew’s age, I’ve got you covered on this one! There are so many amazing options, so let’s take a look at some great choices:

Space 220 - This is an incredible choice for a boy this age and my top recommendation for you! The experience starts the moment you step into the elevator and blast into outer space. During your meal, you have views of astronauts and spacecraft and feel like you're orbiting Earth, but the food is the real star. It’s not only of exceptional quality, but it looks like a true work of art!

‘Ohana - One of my favorite restaurants in all of Walt Disney World Resort! There is such a fun island vibe, and the food is absolutely delicious! If you can, book a reservation for about an hour before the fireworks at Magic Kingdom and ask for a table with a view. While there’s no guarantee on seating, a view of the castle would create a truly memorable birthday celebration! Even without the view, 'Ohana is truly magical and an excellent choice.

50’s Prime Time Cafe - This is the perfect choice if you’re looking for something casual but high on entertainment and immersive theming. It’s like eating in your favorite auntie’s kitchen, and your server may even remind you to take your elbows off the table! I recently took my teen daughter there for a birthday day, and our whole dining room sang Happy Birthday to her like one big happy family!

Teppan Edo - This would be a big hit with a boy your nephew’s age! It’s a true Japanese teppanyaki-style meal with chefs cooking right at your table and performing tricks on the grill. They also happen to have delightful personalities and turn dinner into a real show!

T-REX - Imagine stepping into the prehistoric era with huge dinosaurs, meteor showers, and an exciting atmosphere, combined with food that is just right for kids and teens. This one was truly a surprise hit for me the first time we visited and would make a fun and memorable birthday dinner!

The BOATHOUSE - This is a wonderful choice for a more elevated birthday dinner at Disney Springs. It comes with delicious seafood and beautiful water views. It’s the perfect place for a birthday dinner at any age!

James, I hope this helps you pick the perfect place to celebrate your nephew’s birthday and first visit to Walt Disney World! I had so much fun putting this list together for you. If you have any more questions, stop back by and see me. I’m here to help you plan a celebration that is “practically perfect in every way!”

    Magically,
    Casey
