Our 8 year old and 6 year old eats more than the child portion shows on the menus we have checked out. Can we upgrade the kids quick service to adult quick service and pay the difference?

    Welcome to planDisney, Cindy!

It’s so nice to meet you and hear that you are planning an upcoming visit to Walt Disney World. There’s nothing I love more than deep diving into all the planning that goes into a Disney vacation. Well, I guess actually being there tops that, but still, the planning part is part of the fun. Especially when the topic is food and selecting which restaurants we will be dining at. My go-to quick service is Flame Tree Barbecue, the Baked Macaroni and Cheese with Pulled Pork is a must for me. Over the summer we park-hopped from Hollywood Studios to Animal Kingdom just for lunch so that I could grab this meal on our last park day. It was worth it!

When it comes to ordering at quick-service restaurants, you are free to order whatever you wish to enjoy! The only factor would be if you were visiting with the Disney Quick-Service Dining Plan. If you have the dining plan, then your Mouseketeers will have to select from the kids' menus. If you don’t, then they can freely order off the adult menu.

My family tends to visit with a dining plan and there have been times when my oldest Mouseketeer has been much hungrier than me. So we have swapped meals in the past. He’ll enjoy my adult portion and I'll enjoy his kids' portion. That's usually worked out fairly well for us, even on a dining plan. We are also a snacking family so those snacks in between meals keep us somewhat full so again, the kids-sized portions come in handy. We are all pretty good with, eating what we have and getting a snack later if we are still hungry. We also bring a few snacks from home into the parks with us. Things like granola bars, fruit snacks, and even fresh fruit help us in between meals. Plus, my daughter is a popcorn bucket collector. So we usually have a full popcorn bucket with us at all times, again helping my hungry Mouseketeer! Did you know if you purchase a souvenir bucket, you can enjoy popcorn refills at a discounted cost for your length of stay?

Cindy, I hope this helps answer your question. I can’t wait for you to arrive, you’re going to have an incredible trip. Please visit us again if there’s anything else we can help you plan for. Until then, enjoy the planning phase!

Hi ya Pals! I'm Shantel, an Army wife and mom of two. I grew up going to the parks, and now we're sharing that tradition with our kids. When I am not visiting the Walt Disney World Resort, I'm at home researching and planning for our next trip. One of my favorite things to do is search for new snacks to try, especially if they are Mickey shaped. I'm definitely living the dream my heart wished for! I cannot wait to answer your questions and help make your vacation even more magical!
