Welcome aboard, Calandra! My kids look forward to hanging out in the Youth Clubs each time we sail because they adore meeting new friends and experiencing the games and activities with the awesome counselors. Your two kids are in for so much magic!
Children under age eight must have a parent sign them out of the Oceaneer Club and Lab, so your ten year-old son will not be able to sign his sister out. Once a child is eight, the parent has the option of allowing the child to self check out. Some parents are okay with this, others are not, so it's left up to the parental decision. You'll be able to make that choice for your ten year-old son as you check-in online.
Does your son have a mobile device? If so, download the
Disney Cruise Line Navigator App to that and your own phone before arrive for your cruise. Once onboard, the texting feature on this app allows you to text each other for free. This might be an option so that if your son is ready to leave, he can text you to come check out his sister too. If he doesn't have a mobile device to keep with him, he can take one of the two Wave Phones that are provided in each stateroom. These function like cell phones to call and text onboard, so you can contact him and he can contact you.
Before my kids had iPods to text us with, we didn't always want them to keep a
Wave Phone because we were afraid they'd lose it. So, the counselors are happy to text you through the app or your Wave Phone to let you know that your child is ready to go. We'd get a text occasionally that one of our kids is ready to head out. Honestly, though, they have so much fun there, they'd be happy to stay all day!
I hope those details help as you get ready to set sail, Calandra! Stop back if we can help with anything else!
