Hi, Eugene! Welcome to planDisney!
It's never fun to be injured, but your poor Mouseketeer getting hurt just before your vacation is a real bummer. I'm so glad you're thinking of ways to make the best of it and still make magic for your family!
Disney's policy on Electric Conveyance Vehicles, or ECVs, states that Guests must be 18 years of age to rent and operate them, and they'll require a photo ID as proof that the user is the proper age. So, as fun as it might be to tool around on a scooter, that particular ride is out for your young patient.
But like Hercules, we won't give up, and we can go the distance! You can always rent a push wheelchair, and it's really not as onerous as you might think. My mom had some trouble getting around in her later years, and we rented a push wheelchair for her on her last visit to EPCOT with us. My husband and I took turns pushing her, and she could even walk short distances, so we were able to leave the chair parked when we entered attractions and restaurants. I think you'll find it's an easy way to accommodate your teen's needs during this time of recuperation. Just head over to the
Wheelchair Rentals page on the Walt Disney World website for all the details on securing a wheelchair during your vacation. You'll also find info about using the chair on attractions and transportation on the
Services for Guests with Mobility Disabilities page that will help you navigate the parks and Resort hotels.
Eugene, I'm sending lots of pixie dust to your trooper for a safe and fun vacation - and a quick recovery! Thank you so much for stopping by with your question, and please come see us again if we can offer any more assistance. We're always here to help!
Keep Disney Dreaming,
Kathy K.
