My 11 year old son is traveling to WDW with my mom for Christmas. He currently has a Magicband+ that is currently managed in my MDE account. How do I set it up so that he will be managed by my mother’s MDE account for their trip and back to mine after?

    Hey Brett! Welcome to planDisney!

I’m so excited to hear about the magical Christmas adventure your son is about to have with his grandmother. A holiday trip to Walt Disney World sounds like the sweetest core memory in the making! My first visit was with my grandmother, and I credit that visit to my lifelong love of the parks. The nostalgia will always be there for me!

Ok, so the good news is that switching who manages a child’s plans in My Disney Experience is totally doable. It just takes a little teamwork and a sprinkle of digital pixie dust.

Here’s the simplest way to handle it. Since your 11-year-old’s MagicBand+ is currently managed under your account, your mom will first want to create her own My Disney Experience account if she doesn’t already have one. Then, from your desktop, in your Family & Friends List, you’ll find your son’s profile and select the option to “Share planning with this Guest.” Enter your mom’s email, and once she accepts the invitation, both of you will be able to see and help manage his plans.

For the trip itself, your son’s MagicBand+ will work perfectly fine even if he’s still listed under your account, as long as he’s connected through Family & Friends and your mom is managing his reservations, tickets, and plans. MagicBands pull information from the account they’re linked to, not from who physically has the band, so there's no need to re-pair or unlink it.

Now, if your mom wants to fully manage everything temporarily, like modifying Lightning Lane selections, viewing memory maker photos, or checking his plans in her app, keeping that shared planning connection will keep it smooth and easy during their stay. And when your little traveler returns home, you simply adjust those settings back so you’re the primary planner once again.

If anything feels tangled or you want an extra set of eyes, don’t hesitate to contact the Internet Help Desk at Walt Disney World. They’re wonderful with these account-sharing questions and can help walk you through anything tricky.

Wishing your son and his grandmother the merriest, most magical Christmas trip ever. And you? You get the joy of hearing all about it when he’s back!  Which might be the best gift of all!

Magical wishes and memories to you all,

    Emille
