Hi Sarah! Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel!
The family that runs together, funs together! You and your son are going to have a great time on your race-cation! When my husband and I went down for Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend last year, we dedicated our first day to exploring outside of the theme parks after the expo, so I would love to pass along some ideas that we had.
Heading over to Disney Springs was the main event of our day. We made sure to have a dining reservation for all of our "carb-loading" before the races the next day. It also felt good for our legs to stretch after a long morning of travel by checking out the stores. Since you are down there for
Star Wars Rival Run Weekend, be sure to check out the Star Wars offering at
The Void: Step Beyond Reality while you are in Disney Springs.
Another great activity to get your body moving without tiring you out is a round of
miniature golf! There are two courses available on Walt Disney World Resort property: Fantasia Gardens and Fairways Miniature Golf and Winter Summerland Miniature Golf (my personal favorite as a Christmas fanatic!).
Disney's BoardWalk is a great spot for some evening entertainment as well as delicious restaurants. While you are there, feel free to walk around and explore the Disney Resort hotels in that area ... they are beautiful!
I hope this helps with planning your free day, Sarah! I know you will have the BEST time running through the magic! May the Force be with you!
