My 5 year old son has autism and we visited Walt Disney World in Jan 2011 and are going again next week Jan 2012. Do we need to bring the doctor note again or is that something they keep on file?

Hi Nicole! How wonderful that you will be visiting Walt Disney World in just one week! I bet you are getting so excited about your upcoming stay.

As you probably know from visiting in the past, Walt Disney World excels at assisting a wide variety of guests, including those with special needs. The guest service at Walt Disney World is legendary and Cast Members are well-trained and eager to assist in any way possible.

In regards to the doctor's note, I would bring it again, just to be on the safe side, as it is better to be prepared when you arrive with everything you may need. You will need to bring the doctor's note and your child with you to Guest Relations when you arrive at the park. The Cast Member at Guest Relations will issue a pass based on your child's specific needs. For example, if you need to ensure that your son is not waiting for rides in the direct sun light, be sure to mention that.

There is a wonderful story on the Disney Parks Memories site in which a guest, Christine, shares how her son with autism overcame his fears of the rides when visiting Magic Kingdom. You can search the site for other wonderful stories or share your own special memory.

I hope you have a magical vacation!
