My 5 year old has recently broken her leg and is in a leg brace and we are leaving for disney world next weekend and she will still be in this brace....what do i need to know to make her trip not miserable?

    Hi Lindsay!

Bless your little girl's heart! Its certainly disappointing but great you're planning ahead so that you can make the best of it.

First, talk to her doctor about her limitations and care of the brace. Does she have to be in it 24/7? Can she remove it to go swimming? It will be warm, so is it okay to put ice on top to cool it down or prevent itching? If its black, placing a thin white towel on top will help reflect the sun's rays. Make sure you take what you'll need in order for her to shower if she can't remove it.

Next think about mobility around the parks and on property. Do you have a stroller or wheelchair you're bringing or will you need to rent one? Stroller Rentals and Wheelchair Rentals are available at theme parks and Downtown Disney. They don't rent smaller wheelchairs for kids but she should do okay in a larger one. There are also local rental companies for strollers and wheelchairs that would allow you use outside the parks.

Disney World is a great place for Guests with special needs including those with limited mobility. I recently answered a question for another Guest regarding the details of how a Guest Assistance Card works that you may find helpful as well.

Remember to give your daughter rest stops when she needs them. You're always welcome to visit a First Aid Location if you need any assistance from them. You'll find them in all of the theme parks.

I'm limited in space but please feel free to visit with any other questions. Its my pleasure to assist you!

Wishing you minnie magical memories :-) Allison
