We have a 5 year old princess going with us in August. What would you suggest for an allowance for her at the parks?

Hi Jennifer! We use 5 dollars times the age of the child to determine how much our children will be allowed to spend during our vacation. Your princess would have $25 to spend. While, this may not seem like a lot of money, that is exactly the point. You have planned and paid for a wonderful family vacation including meals and entertainment. There is a potential to "break the piggy bank" by purchasing all the wonderful merchandise found in each Park, your Disney Hotel Resort, Downtown Disney and Disney's BoardWalk. Children will want EVERYTHING. If your daughter gets in the practice of having a spending limit, she will make better purchases and buy items that she will cherish.

Disney Gift Cards and Disney Dollars are an excellent way to allow her to spend her money. Disney Gift Cards can be purchased online at www.disneygiftcard.com and at Walt Disney World. Disney Dollars can be purchased at your Disney Hotel Resort, the Parks and Downtown Disney.

So, what about that item that she really wanted and did not have enough money for? Well, this is where truly awesome parents shine! You can purchase that one item for her, while she is distracted, and give it to her on the last day of your vacation or even once you return home. She will be thrilled and will come to look forward to her "Disney Vacation" gift. My kids eat it up and as they get older and see so many things that they "have to have", the "Disney Vacation" gift is a real surprise to them. Very fun!
