Welcome back to planDisney, Jennifer! You'll be headed to
The Most Magical Place on Earth in just a week! I can imagine the excitement in your house!
Your son can absolutely use his electric wheelchair at Walt Disney World. Disney really is for everyone, and I think you'll find it to be a very accessible place. You may want to look over the
Accessibility Planning Guide & Recommendations. Although not all of the content applies to your son, it's full of helpful information.
The
Services for Guests with Disabilities page can prepare you for what to expect with attractions. Many experiences can accommodate electric wheelchairs (there's a list
here), while some attractions require guests to transfer to a standard manual wheelchair (provided at the attraction) before boarding the ride vehicle (listed
here).
There's also a Services for Guests with Disabilities section on the
My Disney Experience App. From the home screen, click on the three lines in the bottom right-hand corner. Scroll to the bottom and select Accessibility & Health Services. Then scroll until you see Services for Guests with Mobility Disabilities and select Learn More. You can access all of this information there.
One more tip - my fellow panelist,
Kami, is a wheelchair user and has extensive experience in this area. She always has great advice, so I'll link to one of her recent answers
here. You can also
reach out to her directly with specific questions if you like.
You'd better get packing, Jennifer! It's going to be an incredible trip filled with magical memories! As a mom of teens, I know that these days are starting to fly by, so I hope you are able to take it all in! Please don't hesitate to let us know if there's anything else we can help with. We're always here for you at
planDisney!
Always dreaming -
Elizabeth
