My 8 year old and I are on a 7 Nt cruise around the Med on Magic..how do I best book long day trips for me only that don't get back til 7pm eating on board at night for both of us...and watching the live shows what did you book....earlier or late?! Help!

    Hi Karen -

Thanks so much for visiting the Moms Panel with your question. I'm so excited to hear that you'll be cruising the Med on the Disney Magic very soon. That is a wonderful itinerary! My kids were about that age when we visited the Med a few years ago. I'm sure your 8 year old will have a blast!

Our family's preference is to enjoy dinner during the 2nd seating. I think it has worked well for us, since we usually enjoy watching the early show first, and then enjoy dinner afterwards. It's a matter of preference, really. You'll find quite a few more families with smaller children in the early seating because of earlier bed times. Not sure about your child, but mine seem to have an endless battery of energy that keeps them up and active all the way through midnight at the Oceaneer Club & Lab most nights. So, the late dinner seating has worked to our advantage. Just in case they get hungry before the 6pm show, there's always quick serve snacks available on deck by the pool area to hold us over. It's never really spoiled our dinner appetite -- we just eat a smaller portion and we're ready to enjoy the scrumptious dinner at the main dining room once 8pm hits!

The best reason to book your Port Adventures with DCL, is that they are well aware of the schedules of guests while on board. The port adventures will either get you back early in the afternoon, or early enough to get ready and changed to watch the 6pm early show (or early Dinner seating if that is what you are on). We've been on a few full day trips and we've never missed the early show back on board. If any delays happen while on your group excursion, the ship is also well aware of the Port Adventure schedules, so you know that the ship won't leave without you and your group :-).

Do write back with any other inquiries you have, and we'll be glad to help!

    Happy planning,
    ~ Dolly
