My 10 year old grandson has spina bifida. He can walk but the distances will be a challenge for him. What Value or Moderate Resort would have the least walking to bus stop/lobby etc. Any other suggestions for dealing with his handicap are appreciated!

    Hi MaryLou,

It sounds like you are planning a Grand Adventure! Not only will your grandson have the time of his life visiting the Walt Disney World Resort but he is sure to make Magical Memories which both of you will cherish for years to come.

My top Resort hotel recommendation for you is Disney's Port Orleans - French Quarter Resort hotel. This Resort hotel is more compact as compared to the other Value or Moderate category hotels and therefore no matter which building you are placed in you will not be far from the main areas of the Resort. However as long as you book a "preferred room" at a Value or Moderate category Resort hotel you will be placed in a room which is close to the main areas of the Resort. Usually the preferred room rates are a little bit higher but in your situation it will be well worth it.

Since your grandson has mobility issues I highly recommend either bringing a manual wheelchair if you have one or renting one from one of the Disney featured providers listed at the bottom of the following linked page for Wheelchair Rentals. Since your grandson may benefit from other services my final vacation planning suggestion is to familiarize yourself with the variety of Services for Guests with Disabilities.

Please let us know if you have any further questions!
