My 15 year old doesn’t ride thrill rides so I will be riding alone. Can he wait in line with me and not ride? Do I have to buy him a lightening lane pass so he can wait with me? I don’t feel comfortable leaving him alone.

    Hi Heather!

Welcome to planDisney! The countdown to your most magical vacation is on! I'm sure that you and your co-Mouseketeer are planning every detail and mapping out all of the attractions together. And it seems that some of the rides are channeling your son's inner Fear instead of thoughts of Joy! Let's turn your question Inside Out, and create a game plan.

First, in my opinion, the Walt Disney World Resort is not only The Most Magical Place On Earth, but it is one of the safest. So, if you two decide to separate, the Lightning Lane queues are relatively short. There are exceptions (like if an attraction has a temporary closure), but for the most part, you won't be away from your son for too long. For example, while you rock out to'80s hits on Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, your kiddo could eat a tasty snack while waiting on a bench or ledge close to a group of trusty Cast Members. And this goes for any of the thrill rides that are on his "Disgust" list. If he's on the fence about experiencing any of the rides, I recommend that he watches ride point-of-view videos online before your vacation.

I have joyful news, Heather! I double-checked with an awesome Cast Member, and he said that you may be accommodated by simply explaining your situation to the Cast Member at the attraction's entrance. Keep in mind, you may be told that he needs the paid access because this is at the Cast Member's discretion. I always caution on the "safe side" and want to avoid feelings of Anger or Sadness, so I recommend that you purchase an Individual Lightning Lane for him, too. By the way, there are many less-thrilling attractions that have Lightning Lanes available with a Disney Genie+ purchase (versus Individual Lightning Lane). This will give both of you access to select Lightning Lanes throughout the day to maximize your day.

AN EXTRA GEM: If your son does wait with you, he'll get to experience some of the most detailed queues in this galaxy. Beyond the ride itself, your senses will be stimulated by both larger-than-life structures and the tiniest details. Be on the lookout for those Hidden Mickeys! Then, when you get to the attraction's loading station, follow a friendly Cast Member's waiting instructions and you two will reunite shortly after you've experienced the ride.

I hope that this answer gives you some peace of mind about your upcoming vacation. As a mom of two young boys, just thinking about all of the core memories you'll make has made me a bit emotional. You're seriously going to have the best time! Heather, if you have any further questions, please give us a holler here at planDisney.

    Magic always,
    LeAndra
