My 14 year old boy and I are arriving on the 4th of July around noon, we are staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, which park do you recomend to start with since we wil already be at a late start, so we can make the most of that day.

How about visiting the Animal Kingdom since it just a quick bus ride from the Animal Kingdom Lodge? By mid-afternoon, I think much of the crowd that arrived in the morning for Extra Magic Hours may have left or will be leaving; it closes at 8 on July 4th, 2011.

I also think Epcot would be a good choice, especially the World Showcase.  It is such a large area, that even if it is crowded, guests are so spread out throughout the World Showcase that you rarely feel the "squeezed," unlike the Magic Kingdom (which I'd avoid on a holiday!). It will give you a nice chance to explore all the different country's showcases. Epcot is open 10:00 pm that day.
