Have a 4 year old going to be 5 in Aug (45inches tall).. renting a car when coming to WDW. Do we need to bring a carseat? What are the laws? Does anyone know if they charge on airlines to bring one along? Flying American Airlines. Thanks for your help!

Hi Stacey!  The laws are similar in Florida to most other states concerning carseats.  Please click HERE to read the regulations concerning carseat usage in this state.

Although children under five are required to be restrained it is still recommended that all children up to the weight of 90 pounds be in some type of booster seat.  The rental car companies have these to use during your stay for a small dail fee.  We actually just rented a car from the Disney Car Care Center this past month and needed a booster for our grandson.  They were very nice and let us use it for the week without a rental fee.  I recommend when making your rental car reservation you mention you will need a booster seat as well so it is ready for you when you pick up the car either at the airport or at Disney.

Commercial vehicles such as buses and taxis do not need to use car seats or boosters in Florida.  Many taxis do carry them in their trunks so ask for one if you feel better about using them during your stay.  If you take the Magical Express service to the resorts you will not be able to use a carseat on the bus.  They must be stored with the luggage underneath.

Basically it would be far more convenient and less hassle for you to leave your own carseat at home and use one from the rental company.
