When MagicBands were introduced in 2013 and redesigned in 2016, they were provided free to annual passholders and to guests who booked a stay at a Walt Disney World resort. It was a great way to introduce the technology to guests at the time.
The complimentary MagicBand benefit was discontinued post-pandemic with the introduction of the rechargeable
MagicBand+ and with enhancements to the
My Disney Experience Mobile App. As a Walt Disney World resort guest, you can purchase a MagicBand+ for a discount if you choose. Simply go to your resort reservation in the My Disney Experience Mobile App and scroll down to Choose MagicBands.
If you decide not to purchase a MagicBand+, you can request a free Key to the World card that will perform most of the functions: admission to the theme parks, unlocking your resort room, charging to your room. The My Disney Experience Mobile App on your phone also can be used.
The MagicBand+ offers some added benefits, including interactive features at shows, parades and other entertainment. And MagicBand+ works aboard the ships of the Disney Cruise Line.
