Have x-mas surprise booked for ours kids 12&10 Dec 24-Jan 1. I have no idea where they will want to go first! Am I crazy to want to "wing it" for dinner res on such a busy week? We can be very flexible on times. Does every resturant book soli

    Hi Jenell,

First of all let me say that I think you kids are going to be so excited about their Christmas surprise!  If someone told me that we were going to the Disney World today, I would be walking on air!

Now, while I understand that since you're not involving the kids in the planning process, you have no idea which parks they're going to want to visit first -- I get that.  However, it will be extremely crowded during your vacation.  In fact, many of the parks will probably fill to capacity.

This doesn't mean you won't have a great time -- you will, but you'll want to be prepared.  If you want to dine at a table service restaurant, you're going to want to make dining reservations.  Remember, you can always cancel, but you don't want to spend your entire trip waiting for a table.

Many of the restaurants will be booked solid, so maybe counter service restaurants will be better for this trip.  There are several good ones that offer more than your standard theme park food:  Earl of Sandwich and Wolfgang Puck Express in Downtown Disney are delicious.  Sunshine Seasons in Epcot offers a great variety.  In Animal Kingdom, try Picnic in the Park - you go to the counter near Island Mercantile and place your meal order.  You'll be given a time to pick up your meal packaged in a reusable bag, complete with entrees, side dishes, desserts and water.

Hope this helps.  Have a magical vacation!

Meet the Panelist: Diane, Georgia

After spending 25 years in RI, my husband and I relocated to GA with our youngest, who is now in high school. I took my first trip to Walt Disney World when I was 11 and I have traveled many times since then with all different party sizes. From creating our first itinerary as a honeymooner to later creating magical experiences for our multigenerational family gatherings, every aspect of planning a vacation has been pure joy to me.  Learn More About Diane
