is it worth getting the dining plans? or will i come out cheaper eating day by day on our own?

Hi Sadie - The answer to your question is all going to depend on whether or not you plan to eat all of your meals at Walt Disney World.  If you are, I think it's always a great deal to get the Disney Dining Plan.  While you'll still have to pay for gratuities and any out of pocket expenses, you'll still find that it's going to be a lot of food.

To optimize the dining plan, we generally have a light breakfast (even bringing our own granola bars), and use our snacks for food, not beverages.  I also carry my own water bottles to the park, so I don't have to buy them.  Also keep note of prices, so if you have to pay out of pocket for an extra meal, you'll know which meal to pay for (it's usually going to be a buffet).

I hope that helps!  Have a great vacation!
