Hi there, Douglas! A very warm welcome back to planDisney. World of Color is one of my favorite nighttime entertainment experiences that California Adventure has to offer. There’s something about this show that evokes so much emotion that it brings me to tears, or maybe it’s just the mist from the water! I’d love to walk you through your options to help you enjoy the best possible view of this nighttime spectacular.
If you’re in the mood to indulge and enjoy a treat while watching beloved characters come to life in the water, the
dessert party is a fantastic choice. As the show begins, you’ll be able to enjoy a variety of sweets like themed macarons, cakes, cookie cups, and more. Adults can also choose a complimentary alcoholic beverage from a select menu. This option is especially nice because it includes seating at either a table with folding chairs or a high top table with director chairs, while the other options are standing. The show typically begins about 45 minutes after your dessert party reservation time, which also gives you a good idea of when to arrive.
For
dining packages, you’ll be able to dine during lunch or dinner at Wine Country Trattoria or Magic Key Terrace for Magic Key holders, both offering a three course prix fixe meal. Reservations start at 11:00 AM for lunch and 4:00 PM for dinner. In addition, you can also enjoy a character dinner buffet at Storytellers Cafe, with reservations beginning at 5:00 PM. After your meal, you’ll receive a voucher with a designated return time for your reserved viewing area. My family especially loves
Storytellers Cafe. The characters always bring so much fun and laughter, and my son can’t stop giggling while enjoying all the delicious options from the buffet. Plus, it always gives us more of a reason to wander through the lobby of the Grand Californian which is always a treat!
The
virtual queue is a great option if you don’t plan to do a dining package or the dessert party. At 12:00 PM, you’ll want to make sure you’ve entered California Adventure. From there, open the Disneyland app, tap the (≡) at the bottom, select “Virtual Queue,” and then tap “Join Virtual Queue” where you'll find World of Color under the list of queues. Once you’ve secured a spot by joining the queue, you’ll receive a notification with either a Blue or Yellow entrance group about 45 minutes before the show begins. This will give you access to a designated viewing area in Paradise Gardens Park.
Lastly, if you prefer not to use any of these options, standby viewing is available around Paradise Bay on a first come, first served basis. These areas tend to fill up quickly, so arriving about 45 minutes early or even earlier is a good idea. I’ve found that front and center can sometimes still have space, especially since not everyone wants to be in the splash zone!
Ultimately, it all comes down to your preferences. If you don’t want to arrive early to secure a standby spot, a dessert party, dining package, or virtual queue selection can make the experience much more relaxed and enjoyable.
Douglas, thank you so much for reaching out to planDisney. No matter where you watch World of Color, I hope it brings you the same joy it brings me every time I see it. If you have any more questions or need additional planning tips, planDisney is always here for you!
With a Sprinkle of Pixie Dust,
