I am working on planning a Disney trip with my partner in for my 21st birthday. I went to Disney all the time as a kid, but he has never been. Any great tips for planning or things that are a MUST for our Disney trip as two adults?

Hi Sage, and welcome to planDisney.

I’m so glad you stopped by. Walt Disney World is a place that grows with you, and planning an adults-only trip is the perfect way to experience it in a whole new way. My wife and I had a couple of solo days there while I was down for Marathon Weekend, and it ended up being one of our favorite trips. With no need to rush from ride to ride or meet every character, you’re free to slow down and enjoy the details. There’s a lot to talk about, so let’s dive in.

Let’s start with where to stay. Since it’s just the two of you, I’d recommend staying close to the action. With EPCOT’s World Showcase likely playing a big role in your trip, I suggest looking at resorts along the Disney BoardWalk. Disney’s BoardWalk Inn, Beach Club, Yacht Club, and even the Swan or Dolphin offer a walkable location to both EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

When it comes to what to do, it depends on your vacation style. If you're aiming for a balance of classic rides, the latest attractions, and great food, I suggest a long weekend with a 3-day Park Hopper ticket. This lets you start in one park and hop to another later in the day. Adding Lightning Lane Multi Pass will also help you save time in line and get more done.

Here’s a quick guide to some of my favorite attractions:

    • Magic Kingdom: Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, Space Mountain, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, TRON, and Peter Pan’s Flight
    • EPCOT: Guardians of the Galaxy, Soarin’, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, and Frozen Ever After
    • Animal Kingdom: Flight of Passage, Kilimanjaro Safaris, DINOSAUR, and Expedition Everest
    • Hollywood Studios: Tower of Terror, Slinky Dog Dash, Rise of the Resistance, and Star Tours

For food, you’ll find great bites in every park:

    • Magic Kingdom: Sleepy Hollow, Gaston’s Tavern, Pecos Bill, and Skipper Canteen
    • EPCOT: Space 220, La Cantina de San Angel, Kringla Bakeri Og Cafe, and Yorkshire County Fish Shop
    • Animal Kingdom: Satu’li Canteen and Tusker House
    • Hollywood Studios: Woody’s Lunch Box and ’50s Prime Time Café

EPCOT’s World Showcase is also full of great food and drink options. Depending on when you visit, a seasonal festival may be going on, which means even more small plates and beverages to sample from around the world.

Another favorite activity of mine is monorail resort hopping. Start at the Transportation and Ticket Center, and hop on the monorail to visit the Polynesian, Grand Floridian, and Contemporary Resorts. Grab a drink, split an appetizer, and soak in the unique atmosphere at each one. If you have time, take a boat over to Wilderness Lodge, too.

There’s more we could cover, including unique options from the Enchanting Extras Collection, such as fireworks cruises, cake decorating, or private photo sessions. If you’re interested, I’d be happy to dive into those in a follow-up.

Sage, I hope this helps get you started. A 21st birthday at Walt Disney World with someone seeing it all for the first time sounds like a memory in the making. Let me know if you’d like help narrowing down restaurants, planning your park days, or choosing extras to make it even more special.
