How does it work if I buy tickets under my Disney login and purchase park tickets AND LIGHTNING PASS for guests w/o me? They need a Disney account to use Lightning Passes in app? What if I WANT TO PAY for them to upgrade to LIGHTNING LANE PREMIER PASSES?

Hello there, David! Welcome to planDisney!

What a thoughtful planner you are—not only organizing a magical Disneyland Resort visit, but also gifting your Guests the incredible convenience of Lightning Lane access! You’re absolutely right that a little preparation ahead of time will make everything run as smoothly as a glide through “it’s a small world.”

When you purchase theme park tickets through your MyDisney account, you’ll see them listed in the Disneyland mobile app by tapping the menu (☰) button and navigating to “My Tickets & Passes”. You can certainly share the barcodes by screenshot or printout, but the best method is to have your Guests link their tickets to their own Disney accounts. To do this, they’ll simply open the Disneyland app, tap the menu icon, select “My Tickets & Passes,” and then tap the blue plus sign in the top corner followed by “Link Tickets & Passes.” From there, they can scan the barcode from your tickets or manually enter the ID number. Once linked, everyone can make and view park reservations together—a key step before your visit!

Now, let’s talk Lightning Lane passes—the perfect way to make every moment of your Disney day count. The Lightning Lane Premier Pass can be purchased directly in the app, up to seven days in advance of your visit. Just tap the menu (☰) button again, choose “Lightning Lane Passes,” and select the Premier option. From there, you can choose your visit date(s) and the tickets you’d like to upgrade, even if you’ve already linked those tickets to other Guests’ accounts. Since you mentioned that you’d like to pay for the passes yourself, you can handle the transaction right from your own account.

Now, David, here’s why I mentioned earlier that the best method for sharing tickets is by linking them directly to your Guests’ Disneyland apps. Once you’ve added the Premier Passes, each Guest will be able to view and redeem their own Lightning Lane selections right from their device. When they arrive at an attraction’s Lightning Lane entrance, they’ll simply open the app, select the experience, and scan their linked pass—no need for you to be present for them to enjoy those upgrades.

With everything linked and ready to go, David, you’ll have the peace of mind of knowing your entire party can glide through the parks with ease, making the most of every magical moment. You’ll be the hero of the day—helping your friends and family skip the standby queues, share more laughter, and experience all that the Disneyland Resort has to offer.

    Have a magical day!
