i was wondering what worked better for some people in booking their trip. either through a travel agent or online thru the disney website??

I know that we all have different opinions on this topic.  I find that I don't have the patience or diligence to check the website regularly looking for the best deal.  Many years ago I decided to look for a travel agent who specialized in Disney and I found a great one.

I tell her when I want to go, how much I want to spend, and where I would like to stay.  She has always done a great job for me.  Many years ago I wanted to stay at the Contemporary and it was completely booked.  She booked me at the Polynesian and then checked back with Disney often and was able to secure me a Magic Kingdom view in the main tower of the Contemporary.  I never would have had the patience or free time to check back as often as she did.

I have also booked packages early in advance only to have her call me out of the blue to tell me that Disney's offering a great deal and she can adjust the reservation so I save money.  Those are great calls to receive.

Sometimes we tell her that we may want to go in the fall, if we can get a good deal.  She will then call us as soon as the specials are announced so that we get our first choice resort.

It does not cost any extra to use a travel agent.  I don't understand why people would do it alone.  My advice would be to put some time into interviewing the agents beforehand.  Just like in any profession, there are stellar agents and mediocre agents.  Ask questions like how many trips do they book to Disney a year and how often to they go to Disney themselves.  My travel agent is as passionate about Disney as any of us on the panel.  There are Disney loving agents all over the country, I'm sure you'll be able to find one. - Good luck, Michelle
