Welcome to planDisney, Christie! I'm so glad you're here! And I'm thrilled to see that you will be visiting the
Most Magical Place on Earth in just a few months! It looks like you are deep in planning mode, which is one of my favorite parts of a Walt Disney World Resort vacation, so I'm ready to help!
Disney's Keys to the Kingdom Tour is an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the backstage areas of
Magic Kingdom Park. It is a popular experience, and I can certainly understand why you would want to book it for your next trip. I just spoke with a helpful Cast Member, but she was not able to provide good news. While April 4 is 60 days out and should have reservations open, there is currently no availability. She could not see any guest reservations, which caused her to deduce that the experience is not being offered that day. While there is no official policy, the tour is often not available on very busy days at Magic Kingdom. Easter falls on April 5 this year, and it may not be an option that weekend or even that week. Since you have just reached the 60-day booking window, you can always check back, because these things are subject to change. In the meantime, let's try to cheer up with some alternative ideas! Walt Disney World has dozens of
Enchanting Extras to make your next visit even more magical.
I did the
Wild Africa Trek in
Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park a few years ago with my daughter, and it remains one of my favorite Disney experiences ever! You'll spend three-hours with a knowledgeable guide, seeing backstage areas, viewing the animals of the savanna in a new way, and learning so much. I don't want to share any spoilers, but it is quite the adventure! African-inspired snacks are included, but I found it to be more of a light lunch. A professional photographer will take some incredible photos of you, which you will receive digitally at no extra charge! It really is an amazing experience, and I can't recommend it enough!
The
Behind the Seeds tour at
EPCOT is another great option. About an hour long, it takes you backstage at The Land Pavilion, where you'll learn about unusual crops, the latest plant-growing techniques, and all about the interesting species at Disney's fish farm. It's led by a horticulturist who works in one of the greenhouses. It takes a smaller portion of your day and costs less than most add-ons, so you may want to consider including this in your itinerary.
I'm sorry I didn't have better news concerning Keys to the Kingdom, Christie, but I'm confident that you will pivot and continue planning a magical vacation where you will make memories for a lifetime. Walt Disney World has so much to offer that it's impossible to do it all in one visit, so I hope you'll add it to the list for next time. If there's anything else that we can help with here at planDisney, please let us know!
