Hi Corey! Your family sounds just like mine! It doesn’t matter what time of year it is, some family members want to do those water rides!
The short answer to your question is that it depends on which water rides your family wants to ride. For example,
Kali River Rapids (a family favorite of ours) at Disney’s Animal Kingdom usually closes in early January for an annual refurbishment that typically lasts about two months. However,
Na’vi River Journey, another water ride at Disney’s Animal Kingdom doesn’t have a “shut down” season and is open all year.
Over at Magic Kingdom Park, water rides such as Pirates of the Caribbean, Jungle Cruise, and (the oh so soon to be open) Tiana’s Bayou Adventure are open all year. The same is true for other water attractions such as Frozen Ever After and Gran Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballeros at EPCOT.
Of course, all rides occasionally require refurbishment, but most water rides are not planned for “shut down” for a season. The best way to know which rides are scheduled to be closed for refurbishment is to look at the
Disney Day Calendar. The calendar includes a section titled, “Closed for Refurbishment.” This section will list any rides or attractions scheduled for temporary closure.
If you have a specific ride (or rides) in mind, feel free to send that question to us. We can provide you with more information about those specific attractions.
Corey, you might also be happy to hear that at least one of the
Disney Water Parks – Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park or Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon – is open for Guests to visit year-round! The water park will occasionally close if Old Man Winter sneaks down to Orlando for a few vacation days.
Dreams do come true!
