Welcome aboard, Shelley!
I'm so excited to hear that you will be sailing on the Mediterranean voyage on the Disney Magic very soon. That is a wonderful itinerary and my family and I enjoyed every minute of it. When we visited La Spezia, the one thing that really stood out for me was the need to visit Pisa. Though there are other excursions to visit other Italian tourist sites, I felt that Pisa was definitely the main attraction that we wanted to see with our kids. There's nothing like posing in front of the Leaning Tower and pretending that you're propping it up. These make for great pictures, and it is a lot of fun doing it. When you go on your excursions, there is sometimes a cast member accompanying you and they will take Photographs for your family. They'll even show you how to pose :-). So, make sure that you're in your vacation photos too!
There's a port adventure,
Easy Pisa, that is very popular with families with kids. The excursion that we took was to visit
Pisa, and it took about half a day or so. It was pretty warm when we were visiting, so the half day excursion was just right for our family with 2 young kids. We even got a chance to enjoy great pizza in Pisa for lunch.
Just a reminder, that if you choose to enter the Basilica (or any church), every member of your family must be dressed appropriately. Everyone needs to have their shoulders and knees covered, so that means no shorts (we wore long pants & capri pants) and no tank tops (t-shirts are fine).
There's a lot of culture and history to enjoy while traveling in Europe. Try to get your excursions reserved soon, since they do fill up fast.
Bon voyage!
