Hi there Shawn, welcome to planDisney!
It's always great to answer a question from a fellow Canadian. Let's chat about
Disney Gift Cards!
While Disney Gift Cards in U.S. funds are not available in Canada, Canadians can purchase physical Disney Gift Cards in Canadian funds from numerous Canadian retailers. When these Canadian Disney Gift Cards are redeemed for online purchases through the U.S. official Disney website such as theme park tickets or any in-person purchases at
Walt Disney World Resort, the funds will be converted into American dollars. You will receive the exchange rate from the night before and any remaining funds on your card will show on your receipt in U.S. funds. Many Canadians use this method to purchase Gift Cards because you are not charged additional conversion fees like you would with many credit cards. It's also a nice way to budget for a trip!
If you want to purchase Disney Gift Cards in U.S. dollars, you can purchase an e-Gift Card through several retailers or directly from the
Disney Store website. When purchasing an e-Gift Card, in my experience, it has taken a day or two to arrive in my inbox. I like to add any e-Gift Card to my mobile device's digital wallet and add it as a Payment Method in the
My Disney Experience Mobile App. This way, I can use the e-Gift Card as payment for any
Mobile Food & Beverage Orders or purchases made with the
Merchandise Mobile Checkout.
Tip #1: Have you heard of the current
Special Offer for Canadians on 5-day or longer theme park tickets at Walt Disney World Resort? This offer is a fantastic way to save money on theme park tickets. You can use either physical Disney Gift Cards or e-Gift Cards on this offer.
Tip #2: If you purchase multiple Disney Gift Cards, you can combine them on
www.disneygiftcard.com. Here, you can check the balance on your cards and keep track of them by giving them a nickname. To note: you cannot combine currencies so you must keep Canadian and American Gift Cards separate.
Shawn, I hope this information is helpful to your vacation planning. If you have any more questions, please visit
