Hello! I was wondering how long MagicBands last/work? My partner gave me a Limited Edition Loki MagicBand as a gift back in May 2021. It's never been used and now I'm going to Disney in September 2021 and I'm wondering if it's still usable?

Greetings Alex, and welcome back to planDisney!

I am so excited to hear that you are planning to visit the Walt Disney World Resort this fall. Since the Avengers have defeated Thanos, it’s the perfect way to celebrate. You can also join in the 50th Anniversary Celebration while you are there.

I love MagicBands. I have over 50 of them and my Limited Edition MagicBands are my favorite. I see that your MagicBand is “burdened with glorious purpose.” As you know MagicBands are amazing pieces of wearable technology, and they are almost as powerful as the Tesseract. Instead of holding the “Space Stone” your MagicBand has an RFID chip in it that links to your My Disney Experience account. It will allow you to access your theme park admission, redeem Genie+ Lightning Lane and Individual Lightning Lane selections, and add photos to your Memory Maker account. If you are a Guest of a Disney Resorts Collection hotel, you can open the door to your room and charge food and merchandise to your room account. With all that power on your wrist, you will feel like the rightful King of Jotunheim, the God of Mischief, and everyone’s favorite variant.

The power source in a MagicBand, unlike the Tesseract, only lasts for about 2 years. However, I have a few MagicBands that are almost 4 years old and still working. If you have never used this MagicBand, you may need to link it to your My Disney Experience account. You can do this online or in the mobile app by logging in, tapping the 3 horizontal lines in the lower right corner, and scrolling to the bottom of the menu. Select the “Link to Account” option followed by “Link Magic Band or Card” and enter the 12-digit alphanumeric code on the inside of the MagicBand and confirm. Your MagicBand is ready to use and will continue to serve you for quite some time until it has fallen into Odinsleep and may never waken again.

I hope this helps with your planning. If you have any more questions please come back and ask me here at planDisney.

    For all time. Always,
    Andrea
