I was also wondering how long the life boat drill will be and how do the younger kids do during this drill? Thanks again!!

    Ahoy, Jill -

Embarkation day festivities are quite memorable onboard the Disney Cruise ship. There's a lot going on and a lot of guests are just beginning to get their bearings on the ship. You'll hear a lot of 'oohs' and 'aahhs' as everyone makes their way around the ship, familiarizing themselves with the different areas on each deck.

There is a mandatory boat drill that is scheduled at 4:00-4:15pm on embarkation day. I suggest having your whole family in your stateroom a few minutes prior to that time as you wait for the overhead alarm and announcement. You can then step outside and follow the uniformed crew members directing you where to go. Young kids are usually distracted by all that's happening, and they somehow are eager to actually follow directions... their observation skills are quite sharp and your little one might even tell you where to go :-). Encouraging them in a dialogue during this exercise is interesting, since you'll see them either clingy and quiet -- or bossy and in control. Point out different items to them while they stand in line (or while you carry them). There are yellow boats over your heads... and you don't find that anywhere else.

You might be ready for a snack right after... so head over to the upper decks afterwards to enjoy the Sail Away Party at 4:30. Don't forget your camera!

    Happy planning, Jill!
