Hi Cheramy! Staying at one of the Walt Disney World
Resorts brings all the Disney excitement and magic just steps from your room. Plus you get added amenities such as having your purchases delivered to your room and extra magic hours in the parks. It is definitely the way our family travels for a Disney vacation.
The best resorts to watch the Magic Kingdom fireworks from are the Polynesian, Contemporary, and Grand Floridian. The Contemporary offers rooms that are high up on the Magic Kingdom side with very little blockage from anything making them really great since you can be in your room. Request a Magic Kingdom view when making your reservation. The Polynesian beach is the most popular outdoor location to watch the fireworks and obviously a very comfortable and nice view directly across the Seven Seas Lagoon. The Grand Floridian has some rooms with a view and a few spots to watch from around the resort.
Watching Epcot's Illuminations show is more difficult to do from a resort. You can certainly hear them from the Yacht and Beach Club and Boardwalk resorts but getting a full view is impossible. If all you care about is seeing parts of the show you can be lucky enough to get a room with a very partial view or you can stand on the bridge connecting those resorts to each other. But please understand how much of Illuminations is done at water level so you do miss quite a bit.
Other resorts will offer some far away views of Epcot and Hollywood studios shows such as Old Key West but again you have to be lucky enough to be in a room that is high enough and looking out at the right direction. Definitely your best bet for a fireworks view from a resort at Disney World is from the deluxe resorts at the Magic Kingdom area. The moderate and value resorts won't give you clear views if that is what you were hoping.
