Hiya, Carly!
My first response to your question was, "Of course! A trip to the Most Magical Place on Earth is ALWAYS a good idea!" Now, let me tell you some of the reasons why. I took my kids when they were two. I remember the looks on their faces when they saw Cinderella Castle for the first time from the Disney Monorail and their smiles when they waved at Mickey Mouse parading down Main Street, U.S.A. Two-year-olds are the perfect age to understand
this world is magical! For toddlers, I recommend staying at a Disney Resorts Collection hotel because it is close to the theme parks and has Disney transportation. Taking a break in the middle of the day with a nap or a splash in the pool can help your child manage the long days.
The theme parks have several character greetings, but I prefer
character dining. You get to meet your favorite pals and princesses, but the "wait" is at a table with cold drinks, tasty food and air conditioning. It's another way to build in breaks in the day and so much fun!
The
Planning Guide for Parents of Preschoolers & Young Children has incredible information about the attractions at the parks they will love. I prioritize time at Magic Kingdom Park. There is so much there to enchant and delight your little Mouseketeer. The
list of attractions for "all ages" is long! Most little ones like playing with cars and trains. Here, they ride them! There are a few boat rides like "it's a small world" and the Jungle Cruise. A ride on the Walt Disney World Rail Road and the Tomorrowland Transit People Mover is a dream come true. Add flying on a rocket ship with Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin and a pachyderm with Dumbo the Flying Elephant, and you have some serious imagination come to life. With the Festival of Fantasy parade and Happily Ever After fireworks spectacular, your child's eyes will shine bright!
After taking my young nephew this summer, I highly recommend getting a
Lightning Lane Multi Pass. Most people love the pass to enjoy the thrill rides. On our visit, we were able to book Buzz Lightyear, the Tomorrowland Speedway and Peter Pan's Flight ahead of time, and additional selections were plentiful since we were seeking the "all ages" attractions.
You should also hoof it over to
Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park. With all of the animals, your toddler will be enthralled with the natural world. The Kilimanjaro Safaris are wild! And no one can sit through The Festival of the Lion King without dancing in their seat. The tumble monkeys are the best!
EPCOT also has a lot to do, but I recommend going in the late afternoon and early evening with toddlers. Later in the day, the crowds at the attractions you will love tend to be lighter, and the lines are shorter. The Seas with Nemo & Friends is a family favorite. It ends in an aquarium, perfect for a little one with some energy to spare.
In the theme parks, look for the
Baby Care Centers. When you need to refresh, they are so lovely and calm.
So, Carley, I think your idea about taking a two-year-old to Walt Disney World is practically perfect in every way! If you have any other questions or want more advice on making your trip magical, please come back to
