Hello! I was wondering if any flop-1 users had recommendations on specific meal items that help us get our daily protein. Thanks, Carrie

    Hi there, Carrie!

I get where you're coming from. A member of my family has similar dietary needs for personal sustainable health. We've been on several Disney Cruise Line vacations together since a high-protein, low-carb diet has been crucial to hitting their macronutrient requirements. Of course, I've noticed there are often challenges with such major lifestyle changes. But I've also been very impressed by their ability to identify options that are delicious and healthy.

I'll share a few generic tips that I hope will be of use to you. If you'd like, we can also offer more targeted recommendations. Please feel free to send us another question about a particular ship or even a specific restaurant if you'd like us to "dig a little deeper."

Many of the restaurant menus on the Disney Cruise Line ships have recently been updated. It seems to me that the streamlined menu options are a natural response to the evolution of culinary expectations and preferences among our fellow Guests. For example, many menu items that were previously listed in a separate "lighter fare" section of menus may be found with updated recipes as well as relocated to the main entree section of the menu rather than "hidden" away on a different section or page. Depending on the restaurant and its varying rotational dining menus, you might find high-protein options such as salmon or sirloin steak. Be sure to ask your server about any modifications that might be preferable as well, such as including on the side any sauces that might be higher in carbohydrates.

Some ships might have bars or lounges that feature specialty drinks and smoothies for purchase. In some cases, these beverages may be available with optional protein add-ins. If you have a preferred protein powder, you might also consider bringing some along with you on your cruise to stir into your drinks.

Many Guests with dietary restrictions or needs may benefit from connecting with the Disney Cruise Line in advance of their sailing to have their needs annotated on their reservations. This helps the cooks and serving teams prepare in advance to meet those needs. To do this, be sure to use the Special Services section of the My Reservations page to indicate dietary needs such as allergen restrictions, low sugar diets, or other similar dietary requirements. There are other dietary requests that may be submitted on the Special Requests section of My Reservations. That's where Guests can submit requests for Kosher or Halal dining or other needs, such as plant-based, low-sodium, or lactose-free menus.

I hope that gives you a good start to your preparations for successfully navigating the dietary landscape aboard your upcoming Disney Cruise, Carrie. As I mentioned above, please feel free to connect with us again here at planDisney if you'd like to learn more about more specific restaurants or other dining situations.

    Happy cruising, Carrie!
