Heya, Andy! Thanks for stopping by planDisney with a question as classic as the Disneyland Resort itself: What’s the weather going to be like during your trip?
Growing up in the Midwest, I always pictured California as a land of endless sunshine and flip-flops. And while we do have plenty of those glorious blue skies (and flip-flops!), the temperatures can do a little dance throughout the day.
Since you’re heading to the Disneyland Resort in early May, you can typically expect to see temperatures in the mid to upper 70s (°F) for the high, and usually around the mid 50s (°F) for the overnight low. As you know, that’s subject to change—weather can be as fickle as the emotions of Inside Out!
To conquer those May temps like a true Disney hero, I have a helpful tip: layers! I usually start my day with a short-sleeve shirt and a long-sleeve shirt over it. Sometimes I even swap that long-sleeve for a jacket or windbreaker. I find that this helps keep the breeze out when I’m taking the tram over to the parks in the morning. And Andy, mornings in Anaheim can be a bit brisk! Usually by 10 or 11 AM, the temperatures are warm enough and I am perfectly comfortable in a t-shirt. And remember, sunscreen is your best pal, especially with those bright afternoon rays!
In the evenings, the temperatures often dip down again, and I usually find myself reaching for that long-sleeve shirt or jacket. The cooler temps are welcome on a hot summer day, but sometimes it’s a little chilly out there at Rivers of America while watching
Fantasmic!.
Speaking of nighttime spectaculars, If you find yourself at
Disney California Adventure Park, you have to check out
World of Color – ONE! My advice is to join the
virtual queue on the day of your visit and find a spot as close to the water as possible. Here’s a pro tip: Be sure to bring a jacket or poncho, as you may get a little bit wet. You won’t get soaked, but the mist coming off of the water can get a little chilly. (Think of it as a refreshing splash after a long day of adventures!)
If you want an extra treat (literally!), you may want to check out the
World of Color – ONE Dessert Party. This special dining event includes a large selection of desserts and reserved seating for the show. If you’d prefer to enjoy dinner before dessert, there are also a few
dining packages that include a meal and entrance to a reserved standing area during the show.
Now, Andy, it’s important to note that entertainment is subject to change—especially since preparations will be underway for the
Disneyland Resort 70th Celebration, beginning May 16th. Can you believe Disney has been making magic at this beloved resort for seven decades?!
I hope this info helps you plan your perfect wardrobe (complete with Mickey ears)! Wishing you a vacation filled with perfect weather and magical memories!
