Colorful Ship at Night

Just wondering what the dress up nights will be on our Disney wonder cruise "Dec 28-Jan 3". Also wondering if there will be a special menu for New years eve. (Or anything special for NYE!)

Ahoy there Brydie, and welcome aboard planDisney!

After living in Australia and sailing its coasts for years, it's always so nice to be able to connect with Aussies ahead of their voyages on the Disney Wonder as she braves the Tasman Sea for the first time to destinations Down Under! There's something really special about being able to ring in the new year during your 6-Night Disney Magic at Sea Cruise from Sydney; while this is still a very new itinerary and few details have been released, here's a few bits of nautical knowledge that I'm happy to share to help you prepare:

At the current time, this is the current rotation of suggested attire for this sailing:

    • Thursday, December 28 - Embarkation in Sydney, NSW - Casual Attire
    • Friday, December 29 - At Sea - Pirate
    • Saturday, December 30 - At Sea - Casual Attire
    • Sunday, December 31 - Nouméa , New Caledonia - Casual Attire
    • Monday, January 1 - At Sea - Casual Attire
    • Tuesday, January 2 - At Sea - Casual Attire
    • Wednesday, January 3 - Debarkation in Sydney, NSW
Something to take notice of is that the holiday voyages that I've been on that celebrate New Year's Eve have typically listed the day's attire as "Casual", though many of my fellow seafarers take the opportunity to go all-out and dress as formal as they feel to mark the occasion!

Historically the Disney Wonder has featured a special Happy New Year menu on the evening of the 31st, which would make sense as you'll be repeating the same restaurant from the previous day; this is something that would be great to inquire about with your server on your first night! As far as the festivities go, from what I can see there are currently fireworks planned well after you've departed from Nouméa and are far away from land; in my experience this happens earlier in the evening at a time similar to other Disney Cruise Line Deck Parties and not at midnight. Families intent on staying up may be able to experience countdowns in venues like Azure, while select youth spaces have previously remained open over an hour after the clock strikes midnight in case any folks wanted to pick up their children only after a bit of adults-only revelry!

Like any offerings at sea, this may all still be subject to change without prior notice, so I highly recommend making sure that you download your Disney Cruise Line Navigator App and ensure that it is refreshed and up to date with the latest information as you embark. This will definitely be a fantastic new season for the Disney Wonder as she sails out of Australia and I hope that you'll come back to planDisney again soon for any more advice, tips or tricks before you set sail!

    Here's to a Nautical New Year's Celebration!
