Hello, so I was wondering when the dinning plan might be back? I have a trip paid for with a travel agent but want to wait till the dinning plan is back and the kids can take pictures with the characters.Would you think that by next summer it might be back

Hey there, Monica. I'm so glad you've stopped by planDisney with your questions.

My family and I also have really enjoyed the Disney Dining Plans over the years. It was nice to be able to have almost everything paid for before going on vacation. Ordering the most expensive menu item at a restaurant and not even batting an eye was a fun splurgy feel. As you know, the Disney Dining Plans have not yet returned to us since the reopening of Walt Disney World last summer. At this time, we don't have any information on if or when they might return. I've been keeping a close eye over on the Disney Parks Blog. When an announcement is made, that's where you'll be able to find all of the information.

If it were me, Monica. I'd go ahead and plan that Walt Disney World vacation. I'd hate for you to push it off for too long in hopes the Disney Dining Plan may return. While this isn't the Disney Dining Plan, I think picking up Disney gift cards between now and your trip to use on food and beverages during your trip is an excellent idea. Similar to the Disney Dining Plan, the money will already be gone from your bank account and placed on a card that has to be used during your vacation. Disney gift cards can be purchased at almost all major retail stores these days. Picking one up every time you head to the grocery store is convenient and then you can just tuck it away until you go. Disney gift cards can be used at almost every restaurant and snack cart located throughout Walt Disney World. You can even use it when you place a mobile order via the MyDisneyExperience app. I think it's a great alternative!

While you currently can't get a big hug from some of your favorite characters, you still can get a smile, wave and maybe even a selfie while you are at Walt Disney World. Characters have been spotted in various locations throughout the Walt Disney World parks posing for pictures from a safe distance from the crowds. Also, there are many pop-up character parades that make their way throughout the theme parks sporadically throughout the day. If you want to get even closer to some of your favorites, there are a few character meals to choose from. Currently accepting reservations are Garden Grill Restaurant, Chef Mickey's, Hollywood & Vine and Topolino's Terrace - Flavors of the Riviera. I recently had breakfast at Topolino's Terrace - Flavors of the Riviera and actually took the best selfie I've ever gotten with my girl, Minnie Mouse. I think because she was further away from me I was able to get her whole outfit in the photo and it's just really cute.

While a trip to Walt Disney World may look a little bit different right now, Monica, I do think it is still worth it to visit. The memories you'll make will last a lifetime. If you have any other questions about things returning to Walt Disney World or anything else, please feel free to come back and ask me. I'm here to help!

Meet the Panelist: Jackie, North Carolina

I love all things Walt Disney World.  In fact, since becoming Annual Passholders, my family of 3 is always hopping in the car for a quick trip to visit with Mickey Mouse!  I've been known to make the 8 hour each way drive to Walt Disney World (in one day!) to indulge in a Mickey Waffle or enjoy a sunny day at Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park.  I may have a small family, but we are always up for some BIG fun at the Walt Disney World Resort.   Learn More About Jackie
