Wondering if the dining plan is worth it. We will have 4 adults and 3 kids (3, 5, and 6). We would like to go to CRT after the BBB for a princess experience and that alone will be over $400 I think. It seems like a lot of food. What is your opinion?

Hi Abby!  My family and I are huge fans of the Disney Dining Plan.  We normally do the standard dining plan which consists of 1 snack, 1 counter service meal and 1 sit down meal per night we stay at a Walt Disney World Resort.

If you plan to make dining reservations and maximize your dining credits, I absolutely think the dining plan is worth it.  For one, you pay for the Disney Dining Plan ahead of time so it is less stress when you get to the restaurant.  You may want to order the most expensive entree on the menu, no problem because it is already paid for.  We don't even give it a second thought, but if we were paying for it out of pocket we probably wouldn't even consider it. A counter service meal for my family can be $120.00 for lunch, but it is no stress to us because we pay for it in credits.

Character meals, Cape May Cafe and dinner at 'Ohana are great meals and a great way to maximize your table service credits.  Cinderella's Royal Table is an expensive meal, but it is also 2 table service credits per person.  So you have to figure out if that will work out for your family.  When we do a 2 credit meal during a vacation we usually skip a sit down dinner the day we visit Epcot.  There are so many good snacks around the World Showcase and counter service locations, my family finds we don't really need dinner that night.  So we might use two snack credits that day, 1 counter service meal and no dinner.  To get the most out of the dining plan, we are also careful about what we spend our snack credits on.  There are so many options, not just pop and popcorn.  We bring drinks with us inside of the park and use snack credits on Carrot Cake Cookies and Dole Whip Floats instead.  So by maximizing our credits that way, the Disney Dining Plan really does save us a good amount of money.

    Happy eating!

Meet the Panelist: Jackie, North Carolina

I love all things Walt Disney World.  In fact, since becoming Annual Passholders, my family of 3 is always hopping in the car for a quick trip to visit with Mickey Mouse!  I've been known to make the 8 hour each way drive to Walt Disney World (in one day!) to indulge in a Mickey Waffle or enjoy a sunny day at Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park.  I may have a small family, but we are always up for some BIG fun at the Walt Disney World Resort.   Learn More About Jackie
