I am just wondering if we could bring on board a small desk fan.

Ahoy there, Danielle! Welcome aboard, planDisney!

Your Disney cruise will be here before you know it! I love a Disney cruise in January because, as a Michigander, it helps make our long winter months just a bit more magical and manageable! I also start thinking about the packing list for my Disney cruise well in advance because it helps me to be better prepared as my sail date gets closer. I would be happy to answer your question regarding packing a desk fan for your sailing.

When I’m packing for my Disney cruise, I always like to double-check that the items I’m bringing are allowed to be brought on board using the Prohibited and Restricted Items list, especially if these are electrical items. Electrical items are always susceptible to being on this list, especially with our ever-evolving tech world! I know that many guests also like to sleep with a fan at home, and wonder if a fan can be packed for their Disney cruise. On the Prohibited and Restricted Items list, you can find “fans” in the “Appliances, Electrical Items and Electronics” section, under “Items Requiring Inspection”.

While you can bring a portable fan on board, it will be subject to inspection by the Chief Electrical Officer on the day you embark on your cruise. This is why I recommend packing it inside your carry-on luggage. If it’s packed inside your checked luggage, it may cause a delay in the delivery of your luggage until later on in the afternoon/evening. The reason why it is subject to inspection is to ensure that the portable fan falls within the ship’s electrical and safety regulations. As always, safety is Disney Cruise Line’s top concern for passengers, and thus many electrical items must undergo inspection to ensure they fall within these ranges.

I recommend choosing a fan that's small, compact, portable, and able to stand up easily on the desk. This will help it fall within the electrical and safety guidelines on board.

I also recommend checking out this Packing List, as it lists many other things that might not have been on your radar when thinking about packing for your cruise. I know that I always find a few things on here, too!

Danielle, I hope that I clarified the best way to pack a portable fan on board. I wish you incredible memories on your cruise! Please sail back to planDisney if you have any other questions.
