Was wondering the best way to plan a day in AK w/our toddler (she'll be 3 when we take our trip May 2015). We are staying off property, if that matters. She may not be interested (or tall enough) for most rides-so that's not important. Thx

    Hi Rachel,

My daughter loved a visit to Disney's Animal Kingdom when she was little! There is so much to do there, I think that you'll find that a day with your 3-year-old fills up quickly.

I absolutely suggest a ride on Kilimanjaro Safaris. It is appropriate for all ages, and will take you on an adventure through a simulated African savanna where you may see many exotic animals, including lions, giraffes, and zebras. If your daughter is interested in the animals, consider the walking trails Pangani Forest Exploration Trail and Maharajah Jungle Trek. Both of these walking trails are self-paced, and you could take a stroller on them for your daughter.

One of my daughter's favorite things to do when she was young at Disney's Animal Kingdom was to take a ride on the Wildlife Express Train out to Rafiki's Planet Watch. There, she enjoyed exploring Affection Section, where she was able to pet rare, domesticated breeds of animals. Your little one might enjoy a ride on TriceraTop Spin, which is a child-friendly ride which allows guests to ride in a dinosaur up in the air. Also, she might like to see the show Finding Nemo - The Musical!, which is a retelling of the Nemo story with larger-than-life puppets and fabulous music.

None of the experiences that I have listed have a height requirement, so your daughter can do them all. When you are planning, I suggest that you set up a My Disney Experience account so that you can make FastPass+ selections. Of the experiences that I listed above, Kilimanjaro Safaris is the one that will likely be the most important to make a FastPass+ selection for as it typically builds the biggest lines.

I am limited in the amount of space that I have to answer, Rachel. Please do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions!
