Hiya, Tracey! Welcome!
Walt Disney World has a couple of options when it comes to discounted tickets for members of the military. The one most people are familiar with is known as the
Armed Forces Salute ticket, which is a multiday, park hopper ticket for eligible service members and their families. Some eligible service members include active-duty military, reservists, retired veterans (20+ years of service), and 100% total and permanent, service-connected disabled veterans.
The type of ID you would need is going to depend on which category you fall into and where you purchase your tickets. For the most part, you need a
valid Department of Defense Identification Card. This allows you to purchase tickets both at
Shades of Green Resort, the Armed Forces Recreation Center located on Walt Disney World property, and your local military base.
There is also a regular military discount ticket, which you can obtain on base or at military ticket resellers, such as Shades of Green. In addition to the eligible service members listed above, you will also find those veterans who fall under the John McCain Defense Act and any veteran eligible to stay at Shades of Green can purchase these tickets. For those, you can use a Veterans Health ID Card (VHIC) that indicates the veteran is a Purple Heart recipient, has a service-connected disability, or is a former POW.
I know this is confusing - even those of us who have been using the discounted military tickets for years get thrown for a loop each time the rules or requirements change! If I can explain anything further, come on back and find me.
I hope this helped, Tracey!
