I wondered if my stateroom host/hostess will be able to provide an extra blanket for use on the verandah for our Alaska cruise? I get quite cold, but don't want to use the bedding we will be sleeping on outside. Thanks!

    Ahoy, Becky!

Welcome back to planDisney! Verandah views on the Alaskan sailings are quite spectacular, so I love that you are thinking ahead about spending time on yours this summer. Every morning, you'll wake up with excitement to see what's behind the curtain, and having a cup of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate wrapped up in a blanket is the perfect way to start an Alaskan day. My crew enjoys taking advantage of the complimentary room service continental breakfast as our wake-up call, especially on those early port days.

Becky, extra blankets are plentiful on the Alaska cruises. You'll find them on the pool decks (check the wooden storage containers where pool towels are kept if they are not out), Deck 4, and of course, your stateroom host/hostess will be happy to provide you with extras. They are perfect for you if you want to spend time outside on your verandah looking at the beautiful scenery and searching for wildlife (don't forget to pack your binoculars!). Typically, on embarkation day, you will find your stateroom host/hostess in the hallway helping deliver luggage and checking in with their Guests, so this is a great time to request an extra blanket. In case you don't cross paths, dial Housekeeping on your stateroom phone and have the blanket delivered. I am also cold-natured, and one of my favorite souvenirs from my Alaskan sailing is a blanket from the merchandise shops. I have enjoyed using it for years, and it makes a great travel blanket because of its size.

I'm so excited for your Disney Cruise Line adventure this summer, Becky! When I sailed to Alaska, we experienced a range of weather, so plan to layer each day with a waterproof outer layer. Being able to peel off a layer when needed and staying dry are the keys to comfort. And there is always the option to wash and dry your items using the full-service laundry or using the 24-hour self-service machines at the Launderettes. These services are not included in your cruise fare but can be conveniently charged to your onboard account for a nominal fee. If you plan to do your own laundry, I suggest a laundry bag backpack to transport your clothes from the stateroom to the Launderette and back. It folds down very easily to pack flat.

Thank you for continuing to visit planDisney for help with your cruise plans. Please keep us posted if you think of anything else before you're warm and cozy on your verandah, sailing to The Last Frontier.
