Hi Jonathan!
Welcome to planDisney! We're so happy that you found us hEAR, and thank you for sending this great
Disneyland Resort vacation planning question to us!
It sounds like you're considering a
stay right in the middle of the magic, which I think is a terrific idea. You simply cannot beat the location, the history, the photo opps, and the amazing pool at the Disneyland Hotel. The answer to this depends on if you book a hotel reservation and pair it with tickets that you buy elsewhere or later, OR if you book a
Disneyland Resort Hotel Vacation Package, which combines a play and a stay together. The following is true for the
Disneyland Hotel as well as the other two
Disneyland Resort Hotels, which are Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel and Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa:
For a room-only reservation, which requires a deposit equal to one night's stay, you have up until five days before check-in to
cancel and receive your deposit back. If you
cancel up to two days before check-in, you will be charged the deposit equal to one night, but you won't have to pay for the rest of the nights that you originally reserved. If you cancel within 48 hours of check-in you will be charged the full amount for the total of your planned nights.
Disneyland Resort Hotel Vacation Packages only require a $200 deposit at the time of booking with the full remainder of the total due 30 days before check-in. You still have a
cancellation window of up until five days before check-in where you can get a *full refund (*minus the deposit) back; if you cancel with less than five-days notice then you will lose the total value of the package. I think the most amazing benefit of a vacation package is that should you need to cancel your trip (knocks on wood) the theme park tickets are also refundable, which isn't the case with trips booked other ways.
Pro Tip: If something comes up and you find that you cannot make your vacation as originally planned, call the Hotel Reservation phone line or the Vacation Package phone line and ask about moving your trip to a later date vs. full-on canceling. Those numbers are (714) 956-6425 and (714) 520-5060.
