Hello Wilma, My wife & I will be in the Animal Kingdom on Sat., 02/01/14. I noticed in the calendar that the AK is open until 8:00 p.m. Is this new? I thought the AK always closed at 5:00 p.m. so the animals can sleep. Thanks, 32 days til WDW

    Hi Edward,

Nice to hear from you again! You are not seeing things. Animal Kingdom has started staying open later recently, especially on weekends and during the holidays. My family and I enjoyed a 6 p.m. performance of Finding Nemo -- The Musical and then a 7 p.m. dinner at Tusker House on our Thanksgiving-week visit.

It did feel a little odd, but also fun, to be in the park after sunset. And it was nice to have extra time to take in the shows and attractions.

As you may have heard, there are big changes coming to Animal Kingdom that will include nighttime entertainment as well as the new Avatar-themed land. Some early details were released on the Disney Parks Blog this fall.

As of now, the daylight-dependent attractions, such as Kilimanjaro Safari, continue to close at dusk. But you will have extra time for Expedition Everest, Dinosaur or other exciting rides during your visit.

Please let me know if I can help with more questions as your visit nears. It's not long now!
