Hi Carrie - I have a 4 year and a 2 year old, and we always go back to our room in the afternoon for naps/rest.  I find that the mid-afternoon hours are typically the busiest in the parks, and also the hottest, so it's a good time for a break.  Because we purchase park hoppers, we usually go to a different park in the evening - often Epcot, which is so much fun at night!
