Did Wilderness Lodge reinstitute the Flag Family tradition? Also, what is available on TV? The kids want to watch Disney movies (obviously!) - if we bring DVDs can we request a DVD player and if so, ahead of time or at check in? Thank you!

    Hiya Christine,

Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! I see you’re planning a visit to Walt Disney World Resort during the holidays, and let me tell you: nobody decks the halls quite like Mickey and Minnie Mouse! There are so many merry and magical activities, special events, and treats to be found around the theme parks, resorts, and Disney Springs, and I know you are going to make the season SO bright during your visit.

Disney’s Wilderness Lodge is such a special resort, filled with lovely traditions and stories. The Flag Family tradition, in which one family per day helped raise the flags over the resort (and got a breathtaking view from the lodge’s rooftop), was one of those traditions, but it is not currently available. Definitely ask about it when you check in, as well as any tours or special activities for your family to enjoy during your visit. My fellow panelists and I had a fantastic tour of the lodge, including a special presentation about the Carolwood Pacific Room, and there wasn’t a dry eye amongst us as we heard about Walt Disney’s lifelong love of trains and the lovely storytelling details around the resort.

Speaking of stories, my Mouseketeers also love to watch Disney movies during our resort downtime. We usually download movies with connections to our favorite characters and attractions and bring those along on our tablets to watch back in the room. DVDs are available for rental at the resort, and can be requested by contacting Mousekeeping from your room phone, but availability is limited. Guests may also visit the Wilderness Lodge Mercantile to rent DVDs. Another really fun option is Movies Under the Stars – just check your resort’s recreation guide to see which movies are showing during your stay.

On your resort room TV, you’ll find a limited selection of channels; we usually watch Disney Junior or the Must-Do Disney channel (full of great tips about your visit – we love to watch and say “we just did that!” over and over again). During bedtime hours, you can find a special bedtime story read by Duffy the Disney Bear on your resort room TV; call the front desk for time and channel information.

Christine, enjoy every moment of your stay at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge!

    Wishing you a magical vacation,
