Hey Tammy-
We just got back from
Disney’s Wilderness Lodge and my kids loved the pool, totem poles and even the beautiful hike over to Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground. The most beautiful photo of Bay Lake with Space Mountain nestled between Disney’s Contemporary Resort and Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort can be seen along this trail. You don’t want to miss this shot.
Being the Flag Family allows you to help a Resort Ranger raise the flags on the roof of the lodge. What a great view and a tremendous honor. Only one family is given the privilege each day. When you check-in just ask if you can be the Flag Family for any day of your stay. You may have a better chance towards then end of your visit as Guests who arrived before you may have been selected for the initial days of your visit. Requests may not be made before you check-in and Flag Family duty normally happens around 8:15 a.m.
I checked with a Cast Member and free “Wonders of the Lodge” tours are done Wednesday through Saturday. Make sure to be in front of the 80 foot tall fire place by 9:00 a.m. to enjoy learning about the architecture, design and history of this fabulous resort. This place is a marvel and hard to believe with all the theming that you are not up in the mountains.
In addition, we did a Hidden Mickey Hunt that we got from the front desk. This took us all over the resort and into restaurants to find those tricky Mickeys. My kids were rewarded with a Disney pin for their persistence and success. I think I had more fun than they did.
I hope you get a chance to experience these unique traditions at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge.
Enjoy making many Magical Memories!
