My wife, 9 year-old and I will be going to next week for the first time! My wife has bad balance and will probably use a walker, or at least a cane. Will there be a place where she can park a walker while she is enjoying a ride or attraction?

    Hi there, Fred!

There are a couple of options available to you.

First things first: head to the Guest Relations window at the first Park you visit, and get a Guest Assistance card.  This will allow you the kinds of accommodations your wife will need to make her trip as pleasant as possible.

She should be prepared to explain her medical condition to the Cast Member, who has been trained to assess the situation and provide the appropriate Card. If she can bring medical documentation from a physician - even a note from the doctor explaining what s/he feels is most medically sound for her - that will help the Cast Member make the best arrangements for her.

Please rest assured that you will only need to do this one time; the Guest Assistance Card she receives will be good for the duration of your visit. The Card will be good for up to six people in your travel party.

It is likely that the Card will direct her to park her walker in specific areas (or instruct a Cast Member to take it from her to have it waiting at a ride exit).

If not, she is welcome to park the walker in the Stroller Parking area adjacent to most rides and attractions at Walt Disney World. My guess is that she will not want to be without her support while she waits in ride queues; if you explain this at Guest Relations, the Cast member ought to be able to arrange something for her.

Please feel free to drop me a line with any further questions -- and happy planning!

    See you later, celebrator,
    -Deborah B.
