Welcome to planDisney, Steven! I am thrilled to help you plan your son's first visit to the Disneyland Resort!
I'm glad to hear that you have your tickets purchased and your theme park reservations made! Those are the two most important steps to planning a trip to the parks right now. Next comes planning out your daily itineraries, and you'll be glad to know that you do not need a reservation to visit
Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge in Disneyland Park. You can feel free to come and go as you please to explore the planet of Batuu. Additionally, reservations are not required if you want to build your own droids at
Droid Depot. This is a popular experience, so I would recommend heading there early in the day if you are interested.
You do, however, need reservations if your family wants to build custom lightsabers at
Savi's Workshop. Reservations can be made up to 60 days in advance online or on the Disneyland app. I suggest making reservations for this experience as soon as you are able.
Finally, to ride the absolutely spectacular
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance attraction, you will need to enter the virtual queue using the Disneyland app. The first option to join the virtual queue opens at 7:00 a.m. PST and you can join the queue from your hotel room or wherever you happen to be that morning. If you don't get a boarding group in that first wave, you can try again at 12:00 p.m. PST as long as you have entered the park.
I hope this information was helpful. If you have any other questions as you plan your trip, please stop by planDisney again and we would be delighted to help! Happy planning!
